Some nice excerpts of letters on EdHak and Diary
(the predecessors of Edit Plus)

It's really been nice having you continue to support and fine tune this terrific program of yours. It doesn't seem all that long ago that I was sending in bug reports for Diary 1.x. Now it looks like EdHak is going to become EDIT Pro. Well, why not? The program has come such a long way that it should have a name to match its capabilities. I really do like all of the neat little changes that I've run into in my very basic use of EdHak; especially the full featured window. This is such a good solid program and that is what has helped it survive while other text editors have come and gone. (B. Bradfield, Calif.)

Let me take this opportunity to tell you that I'm very satisfied with EdHak. I purchased EdHak from you about two years ago, when you were in Toronoto for the TAF/Atari Show. I've since found EdHak to be one of the most useful pieces of software I own. Besides word processing I've used EdHak to convert verious types of formatted text files, as disk-sector editor, and even to check out what's going on in RAM for some of my own programming projects. Thanks for an excellent product! (B. Haddon, Canada)

My EdHak arrived yesterday (very fast service, Craig!) and I couldn't be happier with it. I've become something of a connoisseur of DA text editors (this is my third) and it looks like this one will become my default resident editor. I was worried about some things, such as what would happen to a dietized file bigger than the buffer when I saved to it, but there seems to be no problem at all even though I use Dietized Size mode in Data Diet II. EdHak works flawlessly on my TT/bigscreen monitor, and I'm finding it very intuitive and easy to learn. I am _very_ impressed! This has to be the best buy in text editing for the ST/TT - and I say that as a long-time fan of STeno. (G. Fuhrman)

I've been using EdHak 3.01 for a couple days now and ... well, the best text editor for the Atari just got better. :) The block shift and column features let you do things that only Sudden View would do before. One of the new features makes my CodeKeys `quoting' macro redundant (except for use with Aladdin). And the full GEM window is awesome in TT High! At last we can read those 80-column-wide capture files with EdHak without having to use F10 or guess at the last few characters in the line. (You could even read a 155- column-wide text file if you had one ... and of course you can see 70+ lines at once. (G. Fuhrman, Canada)

By the way, more and more I'm using WordPerfect (on the left) and EdHak.ACC (on the right) as a kind of hybrid text processor. Very powerful combination, especially with CodeKeys! :) (G. Fuhrman, Canada)

What does EdHak do? Words can hardly do it justice, but basically it's a text editor that runs as an accessory or program, and it has not only powerful text editing tools but is also capable of editing _any_ file, or disk sectors, or RAM ... in short, anything. :) I probably spend more time in my EdHak window than in any other on my TT. (G. Fuhrman, Canada)

I've been using EdHak for a while now and find it near indispensable. It IS in some cases. As one who also does programming I thought you might like to hear some applauds from a user. I use it frequently to read files, write notes, write text while using a DTP package and for other things. The ability of EdHak to read sectors and locate strings is an element that makes your editor much more than just-another-editor. (G. Dulin, Oregon)

Just what I needed! I use Diary for both PGS text and also to load assembler source code for clipping out routines and saving to disk then loading them into the assembler. I even bought STeno and found that it sucks and yours is better. Splendid work! I really like Diary Acc! Use it all the time inside PageStream since PGS lacks a good "external" editor. If the editors don't zap it, I have mentioned Diary in my review of PageStream 1.8 which is to appear in the January issue of ST Informer. (C. Walters, OH)

Craig, I really like the enhancements you've made to Diary.acc and am glad to send in my shareware registration for a great desk acc notepad. I find it very valuable for working on assign.sys files and writing up message replies for Genie. The screen paging speed is amazing, Tempus-like! All the features you've programmed in make it a remarkable program for a desk acc.. I find myself using it instead of my word processor or ST Writer for many tasks. Thank you very much for giving us such versatility in an always ready desk acc.! (M. Motogawa, CA)

Thank you very much for working so hard on a beautiful piece of programming, Craig.

Mel

I'm thoroughly enjoying Edhak and can't believe all the neat stuff that's in there. You've got a lot of code there to be proud of Craig. Edhak is superb!

Mel

Edhak is a wonderful program and I hope that Genie will consider using it as a capture buffer for Aladdin ST. Thanks!

Mel

Edhak is a super prg/acc and very valuable when using telecommunication programs or anything for that matter. More people should know. The next issue of the GE Lamp will be the 1st of Dec. so I'll have the article for you to proof before that. Thank you very much, Craig, for developing Edhak into the greatest wp desk acc in the whole world!

Mel

As I've stated before, I really appreciate the work you've done on this extremely useful software. (C. Hardiman, MI)

YES! This is one of the truly useful pgms I've found for Atari. As a main frame programmer, I'm accustomed to having a powerful editing environment. (M. Eschhofen, OH)

Good, clean, solid program -- very handy. I've started using it daily! (C. Born, ME)

Great Job! I use the program continuously for some simple word processing and sector editing. (D. Halevy, NY)

I'm glad you're still working on a program I use almost every session with my computer. I use Diary as my primary textfile viewer and preprinting editor, and it is very useful. I usually use it to create textfiles for uploading. (S. Rosenbaum, MA)

This fits what I need to the letter. Excellent and elegant. Good job. (T. Compton, MI)

I use your accessory at least once a day. It is a great program. (W. Lewis, TX)

Keep extending Diary's capabilities and I'll be able to get rid of all my other software. (R. Wenham, TX)

I find Diary is my editor of choice for quick editing jobs, like batch files, and writing small BASIC programs. (E. Sakara, Manitoba)

And the best part is the way you keep adding features and fixing bugs quickly (not stalling with endless excuses). In fact the only other programmer who consistently seems to maintain this level of quality is Charles Johnson of Codehead. Your program is the only one, shareware or commercial, for which I have received an upgrade notice. (H. Wolfe, Ontario, Canada)

Thanks for the upgrade. I use Diary so much that I don't know what I would do without it now. (J. Meehan, Ohio)

It's the only wordprocessing type program I have on my hard drive. Using it with PageStream seeems to be all I need to get my work done. (C. Montgomery, Virginia)

I will also be using Diary to Autoload a custom Help file for use in my MIDI sequencer set-up. (Most file viewer ACC's, like QuickView 2 and the MaxiFile Show function do not work with C-Lab Notator. Diary works well, thank you!) (K. Swafford, KS)

Keep up the great work! This program is so generally useful, I have even used it as a file editor for non-text files. It's also great for adding a left margin, etc. to text files that come with programs so you can put them in 3-ring binders without having to load a full blown word processor. All in all, Diary is an amazingly useful accessory. I plan on using EdHak from now on instead of my word processor and my file/sector editor. (J. Hubbard, TX)

This is a great desk accessory. I boot with it all the time so if I need to do some quick editing of text while I'm in anything from my sequencer to pagestream I can now do it with ease. (W. Lewis, TX)

I find Diary very handy for use with the shareware program Manual Maker as I can very conveniently make required changes to the text input file without having to exit the application. (F. Pawlowski, NH)

As I said, I use the program a lot. It is in the first slot of MultiDesk, so that the pointer lands on it when I click MultiDesk. (J. Kleiser, NV)

I love your DA text editor. I use it primarily to address envelopes on my DJ+ when billing clients. I can print out invoices from my database and then address the envelopes without exiting the program... very handy! (W. Tryk, OR)

It is great to have a GEM based Text Editor Accessory always available from the Atari desktop. One of my more favorite uses of Diary is with another program called Interlink, which I use to communicate with BBS's. To keep telephone expenses down I capture all new mail online in Interlink's buffer and hangup. Then I scroll thru the buffer in one window and compose my response using Diary in another window. By toggling between windows I can read and write. When I finish, I go back online and upload my text files as replies to my E-mail. Plain and simple, it works GREAT! (N. Nesmith, MI)

I am writing to thank you for a wonderfully simple yet useful accessory. Your ASCII text creator/editor DIARY 1.6 is definitely the best addition to my desktop in a very long while. I use a program which allows me to select which AUTO programs and Accessories to load during the boot process. I am always changing which accessories are loaded at particular times, but I can't remember the last time I started a comptuter session without the Diary loaded. The greatest feature is the Append during the write funcitno. I guess that's what makes it a good "Diary" accessory. (J. Beaucaire, CA)

Great idea -- you've made my several word processors useless for many of their former functions. I especially like the ease of creating README files, etc. (L. Benedict, CA)

I find this to be a well thought out program, very friendly interface and a minimum of fuss to use. I find it very useful in my capacity as the PD librarian for a user group. It makes creating & editing README files very easy. Congratulations on producing a superior product. (W. Willis, BC, Canada)

Many thanks and congratulations for such a fine program. I seem to use it every day that I use my computer. (A. Dutra, CA)

Do you know that you are the only one who actually notified me about an update? (I. Takats, Ontario, Canada)

All in all this is a very useful program. I use my ST 80% of the time with "Notator" -- a MIDI sequencing & notation package. I have tried other accessory text editors (Notepad, Flexipad, Partner), but they all seemed cumbersonme compared to this. (R. Greene, CA)

When I hear someone say "constantly updated" you come to mind. (J. Johnson, OH)

This is the easiest to use accessory editor I have seen. Keep up the Good Work! (L. Benjamin, GA)

Please send me Edit Plus v 3.12, so I may continue to live. (J. P. Arno, TX)

This is a truly excellent program! (L. Delafield, CA)
